Get to know Teacher Carol...

Hello! I am Carolyn, but everyone calls me Carol and kids call me Teacher Carol. 😍

I was born in the Philippines, grew up in Germany and now living in the incredible dolomites of Trento, Italy.

A little story time...

My grandmother was an elementary teacher in the Philippines, so growing up as a child, I and a bunch of my cousins would have a group lesson at home with our Granny. I was so amazed by my Granny how intelligent and confident  she was. From that moment on, mind you, I was just about 5 or 6 years old, I wanted to be like my Granny! Years have gone by, and at the age of 12 years old, I had to move to Germany and slowly I had forgotten about what I wanted to become ...Moving forward, I went on to study Business Management ...

Can you guess, who's Granny's faovorite?

Adolescent Life in Germany was lots of fun but also complicated so I decided to move back to Philippines. And just like that faith brought me back to my dream of teaching..I worked for a couple of years in a private school for Koreans, teaching kids and adults one on one and in a group setting. At that school, I learned about a new culture that was fascinating and interesting. Through this experience, I learned to be spontaneous and quick on finding a new topic to dicsuss with students, and even became more talkative than I was before.. After gathering some experience, I was ready to open my own online English Tutorial Service. Eventually 5 years have passed and I  thought of my German Skills being rusty so I had to revive my German Skills I once had and started working in an IT Company for german clients.

Company Outing

Then COVID happened! and it messed up all the plans I had, but here I am in the tranquility of the North of Italy, Trento, married to a Trentino. 😛 I was lucky enough to build up experience in a private school in Trento, which is now unfortunately closed and therefore I decided to pursue this passion of mine...to teach and do arts and crafts.

I possess a TEFL certificate and would like to level up to  get a CELTA certificate soon. My method of teaching is lecture-based instruction, play-based learning, minimal technology- based , kinesthetic learning, montessori-based and cooperative learning for young learners. Since young learners have just limited attention spans, I always have new activities in store and experiment all kinds of methods in order to make the lessons enjoyable but also effective.

The Arts and Crafts Lab  is not only an activity that children can be creative. In fact, this is important for children to learn how to share things with one another,  develop problem solving skills, teamwork, improve mental health not to mention I use this time to have a conversational English topic with children. The goal is to focus on getting to know them better, making them talk with me , improving their listening skills in a fun and creative environment. It is important that children don't feel pressured to speak a second language. What many parents don't know is that teachers find ways to reduce their children's anxiety when speaking a different language. It takes time and a lot of patience...So if you believe in my method and would like to know more, drop me an e-mail...
